Gary Bakken

I am applying for CWP Board seat District 2B. My expressed purpose, as a member of the CWP Accountability Group, is to bring total transparency to the members and return their money through the current litigation by the Minnesota Attorney General and Federal Attorney General.

I am a thirty-year resident of Breezy point and have served the city for approximately 28 consecutive years in every capacity.  I served three terms on the planning commission and three terms on city council.  I am a presently seated councilor, and former member of the finance committee.  I formed the city cemetery development team and chaired the cemetery commission for ten years.  I also served five and a half years in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War, in a support position.

I have an education in business and am partner in an estate planning and financial services company.  I am a current member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes.

As a board member, I will bring to the board and membership, openness, honesty and integrity. I will not sign any nondisclosure agreements that keep financial information form the members.

Respectfully Submitted,

Gary A. Bakken

My Wife and I came to the Brainerd Lakes area 22 years and we raised our family here. Both of our children received an excellent education in the Brainerd school district and are now professionals with families of their own. I enjoy living in the area and intend to retire here so it is important to keep the local economy strong, which Crow Wing Power Coop is critical to.
My wife and I presently own two employee drug testing companies, USA Mobile Drug Testing which I started from the ground up and later purchased Central Lakes Drug Testing. We moved to the area over twenty years ago when I took the job of Director of engineering with Hunt Technologies. Later I had the opportunity to become the president of NexLight Inc. located in Baxter. NexLight is a manufacturer of commercial lighting and building controls. I feel that I have the professional experience to be a good steward of the resources of Crow Wing Power Coop.

Academically my qualifications include a BA in Physics from St Cloud State University, an MA in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of St Thomas and an executive MBA from the University of Minnesota. My wife and I enjoy the year round outdoor activities that the Brainerd Lakes Area has to offer and we can be found many summer evenings enjoying our pontoon boat on White Sand Lake.
